Sukiyaki Style Steak

Sukiyaki is a Japanese favourite dish with thinly sliced beef and assorted vegetables cooked in a sweet soy sauce based broth. It's usually cooked in a cast iron pot over a portable gas stove at the dinning table. Don't worry if you don’t have them. We made it super easy for everyone to enjoy this amazing dish. Ingredients

  • 400g Kobe or Wagyu beef Steaks

  • 5 Spring Onions (diagonally sliced)

  • 3 Shiitake Mushrooms

  • 1/2 Tofu (cubed and drained)

  • 2 Eggs (poached)

  • 2 tbsp Soy Sauce

  • 2 tbsp Sake or White Wine

  • 2 tbsp Brown Sugar 

Method

  1. Add the steaks to a hot pan, cook for 6 mins for medium-rare, or to your liking, turning every minute.

  2. Add soy sauce, sake and sugar to make Sukiyaki sauce. Coat the steaks well with the sauce.

  3. Transfer the steaks onto a sheet of tin foil and wrap. Leave the sauce in the pan.

  4. Add the spring onions, mushrooms and tofu into the pan and cook over medium heat for 4mins.

  5. Serve the steak on each plate. Put the spring onions, mushrooms and tofu aside. Place the egg on top of each steak and spoon over some Sukiyaki sauce.

 

You can replace Wagyu steak beef with sliced Wagyu beef to make proper Sukiyaki!
